The first thing to build on when choosing is not the brand and not the gigabits in the advertising, but the number of simultaneous clients and the coverage area. A 40-seat cafe and a 5,000 sq m warehouse require a different number of access points, different power and a different antenna layout. One expensive access point will not replace three well-positioned ones.
What to look at before buying:
- — the real client density per access point, not just the maximum stated in the specs;
- — PoE support, so you can run a single cable for power and data to the access point instead of a separate 220 V outlet at each one;
- — the presence of the model in the registry, if you work with a government customer or plan a procurement under Federal Laws 44-FZ/223-FZ (Russian public procurement laws);
- — compatibility with your controller and authorization system, otherwise you will have to manage the network manually;
- — the material and enclosure rating, if the access points go outdoors or into a damp space.
The second thing often overlooked is that coverage is not about the number of access points but about their placement. Two access points hung side by side just for show interfere with each other, while the dead zone in the far corner of the room remains. A proper calculation accounts for walls, shelving and ceiling materials, so a network should be assessed on the floor plan of the site, not by the number of boxes on the delivery note.

Buying hardware means capital expenditure and full responsibility for installation, configuration and replacement in case of failure. It suits a network that is stable and long-term.
